How to create and submit your library's satellite image

So, not sure how to get the URL of your image into the correct form for submission? Here's the four simple steps you need:

  1. Go to http://maps.google.com/ and search on your library's address.

  2. Once you've found the correct location, click on the "Satellite" link on the right side of the page.

  3. Go to full zoom using the slider on the left side of the image. (Slide it all the way up.)

  4. Click on "Link to this page" over on the right to get the correct URL in your browser's address bar. This is the URL you need to send me.

Yes, the page you're looking at will include the push-pin and the information baloon. This is ok, I'll remove this information. I want you to send me the page with these two items so I can be sure to pick the right building when I create the mini version for the blog.

NV - Las Vegas / Clark County Library District, Spring Valley Branch

I got married in this library on February 14th, 1997. No kidding. (For those of you that don't know me, I'm divorced.)

DC - The Library of Congress

I worked here for a day as an intern evaluating the Thomas Web site back in 2000 during ALA annual. Checking out the full version of the image due to two notable features. First, the capitol is just across the street to the North. Second, several blocks around the White House, to the North West, are digitally obscured for security reasons (I assume).

NY - Greece Public Library

The library of my home town and it's practically in my parent's back yard. The parking lot is so huge since the town hall is just out of frame to the East.

Update: I've shifted the linked image around so that you can also spot the Greece Historical Society & Museum (small building in the field, NE of the library) and my parrent's house (on the dead-end street in the NW corner of the image).

CO - Arapahoe Library District, Smoky Hill Branch

I work 8-12 hours a month at the reference desk of this library. (In fact, I'm sitting at that desk as I post this.) What makes this realy interesting is that the building was under construction when this image was captured.

CO - Aurora Public Library, Central Branch

Taking my cue from Google Sightseeing, I've decided to set up this little experiment in blogging. Send me URL for the Google Maps satellite photo of your library (on full zoom please) and I'll get it posted here.

To get this started, here's the view of the central branch of the Aurora Public Library of which I'm on the Board of Trustees. (There's a few new buildings and parking lots since this images was taken.)

For now, just email me the URL of the image containing your library, centered and on full-zoom. Eventually I'll post detailed instructions and a submission form off to the right. (Your patience is greatly appreciated.)
